There are many ways to help save animal lives. You can get involved with the Austin Humane Society
through charitable contributions, your estate planning, our signature events and ongoing
programs, becoming a foster family or by joining us as one of the 450+ volunteers who help
provide animal care, administrative assistance and event support.
Your kind contributions help ensure that the homeless pets in our care receive the best
care possible before finding permanent, loving homes. Thank you for everything you do
for Austin's orphaned animals. Your generosity helps the Austin Humane Society make the
lives better for our community’s homeless cats and dogs.
Monetary Donations
Your monetary donations go a long way to helping homeless cats and dogs. It’s simple and
secure, check a donation level and fill out the following forms. Your contribution helps
us save more animals lives.
- $50- provides food and shelter for one animal for 4 months
- $100- helps us provide vaccinations to 20 animals
- $150 helps us spay or neuter 15 animals
- $500 helps us feed 400 animals for one week
- $1000 helps us provide shelter for 250 animals for one month
Monthly Donations
Donating to the Austin Humane Society each month is simple. The Austin Humane Society will charge your credit card for your pre-selected amount each month. All you have to do is fill in the monthly donor form online along with the credit card information and we will take care of the rest.
At the end of the year, you'll receive an acknowledgement of your tax-deductible gift, but each month you'll receive the good feeling that goes along with helping to save animal lives.
Securities Donations
By including the Austin Humane Society in your charitable giving you have made
a decision to take an active role in significantly saving animal lives. A gift
of appreciated securities held for more than one year may bring about significant
benefits to you as a contributor to the Austin Humane Society.
Here is how:
- You become entitled to a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value
of the gifted securities as of the date of the gift.
- You eliminate capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due ifyou had sold the
appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds from the sale to charity.
- Your charitable deduction can be claimed against up to 30% of your adjusted gross
income and any unused deductions can be carried forward over the next five years.
- Helps you to achieve your long-term financial objective of reducing your income and estate taxes.
If you find that you have securities that have declined in value over the years and are interested
in donating them to charity, you may find it more advantageous to sell the securities first and contribute
the proceeds to charity as opposed to donating the securities outright. This strategy should allow you to
claim a deduction for both the loss from the sale of the securities as well as the charitable gift.
If you are considering donating stock that is subject to a cash merger or tender offer, it is important
for you to note that you will be subject to tax on the capital gain even though the shares were transferred
to charity before the tender offer became effective. You should always consult with your financial advisor
before initiating a charitable gift arrangement.
